JOPLIN, Mo. — The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has recognized TAMKO Building Products, Inc. with nine prestigious safety awards for the company’s achievements in 2016. This includes the group’s highest honor, the ARMA President’s Award, which went to TAMKO’s asphalt refinery and fiberglass mill in Joplin, Missouri for having one of the industry’s lowest combined ARMA INDEX scores over a two-year period.

“Safety is a core value of TAMKO,” said Dan Hollingshead, Rangeline general manager – the Joplin location which earned the ARMA President’s Award.  “The Rangeline employees are very serious about having a safe, clean work environment. Many employees frequently comment on how the TAMKO safety culture has also changed their safety practices outside of the workplace.”

Additionally, two TAMKO facilities received the ARMA Perfect Employee Safety Award based on each location’s safety record of NO lost or restricted days AND no reportable OSHA incidents in 2016. The manufacturing facilities are the Joplin, Missouri location mentioned above, plus TAMKO’s asphalt shingle plant in Phillipsburg, Kan. This is the second year in a row the Joplin, Mo. facility has earned the award and the first time for the Phillipsburg, Kan. facility.

Phillipsburg General Manager, Dustin Springer, said, “The team has done a great job looking out for each other and holding one another accountable when it comes to safe work practices. I am really proud of what our team has accomplished with respect to our number one priority of establishing a safe work environment in which everyone goes home to their family and friends safely every day.”

ARMA also awarded the 2016 Safety Improvement Award to six TAMKO facilities for reducing the ARMA Safety Index score by 25 percent or more at each facility over the previous year. Locations receiving this honor include the Phillipsburg, Kan. facility; plus TAMKO’s asphalt shingle plants in Joplin, Mo. and Dallas, Texas; a fiberglass mill in Ennis, Texas; a felt mill in Knoxville, Tenn.; and a cements and coatings plant in Green Cove Springs, Fla.

TAMKO has been recognized many times in the past for its safety achievements, including more than 70 ARMA awards company-wide since 2007.

“We are extremely proud of our employees’ and their accomplishments. These awards are the direct result of teamwork and our company-wide commitment to workplace safety,” said TAMKO’s President and CEO David Humphreys.
