Habitat for Humanity’s Jimmy Carter Work Project 2000
Each year the Carters devote a week of their time to build houses and raise awareness of the need for affordable housing.
This year, the Carters, volunteers and partner families built 157 houses in New York City, Jacksonville, Fla., and Sumter County, Ga. Habitat for Humanity’s 100,000th house was built in New York, and the 100,001st home was dedicated in Carter’s hometown of Plains, Ga. With this came a pledge to build the second 100,000 houses within just five years.
